Hold my hand a little longer
I'm not ready to let go
Let me stay and grow a little stronger
before I try this on my own
My heart is aching and my steps unsure
but 'til I wake it doesn't matter anymore
So I don't wanna move, I just wanna stay
Here inside this room, holding you this way
'Cuz right here in my dreams is right where I belong
It's the only place it seems like your not really gone
Let me hide a little longer
From this loneliness inside
Save me form another morning
Where all I long for is the night
I know I promised I would be alright
And with my eyes closed it doesn't feel like I lied
So I don't wanna move, I just wanna stay
Here inside this room, holding you this way
'Cuz right here in my dreams is right where I belong
It's the only place it seems like your not really gone
I know that I must say goodbye
Wake up and move on with my life
But please forgive me if I take my time
'Cuz I don't wanna move, I just wanna stay
Here inside this room, holding you this way
'Cuz right here in my dreams is right where I belong
It's the only place it seems like your not really gone
It's better than the truth
'Cuz living without you
Is more than I can do
So I don't wanna move

I pulled off the interstate at exit forty-two
Eleven miles of dirt road between where I was and you
That light was on the dashboard and that needle past the E
And the nearest filling station up at exit 43
But I pressed on
I couldn't wait to get home
Ten miles to empty when you know that you can't wait
You think about where you are going hoping you won't be too late
And you know that if you get there it is only by God's grace
Sitting there eleven miles away
And ten miles to empty
Well I passed by that open pasture where you taught me how to drive
And that pond by Ms. Wilson's barn where we would fish all night
So many little memories on such a little stretch of road
They mean more now to me than I ever let you know
But maybe tonight
If I get there in time
Ten miles to empty when you know that you can't wait
You think about where you are going hoping you won't be too late
And you know that if you get there it is only by God's grace
Sitting there eleven miles away
And I felt that engine sputter as I coasted in the drive
Heard by momma calling from the porch for me to run inside
And I stood there at your bedside and held on to your hand
And whispered Dad I love you as you took your final breath
I'm so glad I could be there for the last
And I thank God that I never stopped for gas
Ten miles to empty when you know that you can't wait
You think about where you are going hoping you won't be too late
And you know that if you get there it is only by God's grace
Sitting there eleven miles away
And ten miles to empty
